This fic is glorious! It's one of the best Mai fics ever written, and Lizbee knows just how to handle Mai's uncertainty, and coming to grips with what she has done, and the roiling storm of emotions just under her stoic surface.

The pen is mightier than the sword, or how Zuko saves the day via the power of good penmanship.

Great characterization, wonderful world building, and Zuko being cool in a dweeby kind of way. Sweet, a little sad, and a wonderful idea for how Zuko may have won over the Fire Nation people.

The Psychic Neal 'Verse by sholio (the WIP)

"He's some kind of secret government experiment?" Peter and his team have been trying to catch the elusive con artist Neal Caffrey for years. But Peter's search for Neal leads him to something else: a startling revelation about Neal's true nature.

In this fic, Sholio proves she has creepy powers to reach into my subconcious and pull out all the secret horrors and put them on paper. She is a horrible person, and you need to reed this to be as miserable as I am. (it's good misery).

3. Have you read any of my fics? If you have, what did you think about them?

Fishing for complements, are we? I've read "Cell" and "In Silence." I liked In Silence better, because "Cell" involves Zuko death right around the corner, and my baby! And "In Silence is full of Hakoda and Zuko goodness.

4. Rain or snow?

Used to be, I would say rain, but I've been having terrible problems with mold allergies, and a good hard freeze really helps kill a lot of things off, so snow.

5. Blood or guts?

Blood. Blood doesn't have to mean major organ damage.

6. The Most Meaningful Song Ever (right now?)

Good thing you specified. It changes so often for me. "Get Out Alive" by Three Days Grace. I know nothing else about this band, at all. I found it by chance, and now I'm using it for a Mai and Ty Lee vid.

7. Food you don’t want to live without.

Tomatoes. I love them.

8. Your computer’s name.

Eugenides. My old iPod was named Irene.

9. The most understated book ever.

Understated? I'm not sure what you mean. Under-appreciated maybe? I'm not much of a fan of understated literature to to tell the truth. Understated is often code for written like a shopping list. As for under-appreciated, the Queen's Thief books by Megan Whalen Turner are way under-appreciated, and everyone needs to read them, now.

10. Movie people that should forget even exists.

I can't think of any. There was no movie called The Last Airbender, and M. Night Shyamalan certainly didn't direct it.

Okay, I promise I haven't been ignoring you, or trying to drag out the suspense. I've just been overwhelmed. Mom's still getting over pneumonia, and I'm in the middle of doing student teaching for the first time this semester. It's fun, but exhausting.

5 and 8: 8 has absolutely no problem with heartless men, in fact after what she's been through with her husband and former boss, you might say it's her type. 5 meanwhile, has never been able to resist no nonsense women, especially when they leave his hair care products alone.
6 and 7: 7 loves tall dark and terrifying women, which come to think of it, so do I, and it describes three of the five women on here. You might say they ring my bell. 6 likes her men smart. Very very smart. And give her a hand, she is used to dealing with royal petulance.
2 and 7: Let it never be said that 7 doesn't go for smart women, past all point of good sense, in fact. As for 2, he uh, stole her heart. Besides, there's nothing better to a woman like her than a guy who lives in a library. Unless he lived in a zoo. Or a bioengeneered airship.
1 and 8: Normally 1 doesn't like to get that close to governmental types, but he's made exceptions before for awesome women such as 8, and he's more convinced of the evil of government employees than of politicians anyway. And after all of the backroom deals she has seen, and the corruption and callousness of politicians, lawyers, and government officials, that hurts people and ruins lives, after all the ways she has learned to game the system, his conspiracy theories about fake moon landings seem charmingly naive.
6 and 3: 6 is just the perfect person to deal with 3's voodoo problem, and she's dealt with far worse things than a little ~~slime~~ mucus. Plus, as 6 knows, belles and bandoliers just go together.

Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished.

A hundred years passed and the new Avatar crashed into the ice sheet that borders our village. Although he is the Fire Nation prince, and it's his family and his nation that have brought this war to the world, I have hope that inside Zuko lies the spark of greatness. 1. Rebecca from the novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier - This is one of the only books my mom and I actually both like. It amazes me how many different ways there are to interpret the titular dead character. Was she, as her husband says, a glossy, abusive tyrant, the victim of a clever liar who wanted a wife who was more easy to manipulate, the perfection obsessed plaything of Mrs. Danvers? I believe the first, knowing how well abusers of all genders fly under the rainbow, but all the novel gives us is Maxim’s word (much like most abuse cases, fittingly).

2. Roku from Avatar: the Last Airbender (and possibly Legend of Korra) - Roku is like Dumbledore if Dumbledore were completely incompetent at his job (great job preventing your best friend from becoming an evil overlord!) and gave really bad advice. Speaking of which, what’s Aang doing listening to the guy in The Promise? Bad Aang!

3. R2-D2 from Star Wars - You know, I probably watched the original trilogy for the first tie while I was still in the womb, and for the longest time growing up, I thought our favorite snarky droid was a rolling trash can.

4. Richard III as written by Shakespeare - we watched it in my tiny class full of sick people in high school, and all of the boys were absolutely in awe of him for winning over Lady Anne, while us girls were like “Oh please.”

5. Robin Hood from Robin McKinley’s The Outlaws of Sherwood - It fascinated me when I was younger the way that McKinley portrays the Robin of legend as a composite character with the outstanding skills of two people, the clever, angsty Robin who can lead everybody and keep roofs over their heads (mostly), and Marian, the one who can actually shoot a bow and has charisma.

I have family in Alabama- Meme FOR CHARITY

My sister, my brother, my brother's wife and kids, and my uncle and cousin all live in Huntsville Alabama, one of the hardest hit areas by the recent tornadoes. I don't yet know how they're doing, or even if they're doing. Livejournal is offering a vgift for $2.99 dollars, the proceeds of which go to the tornado disaster relief effort, and this weekend, I will write a 100 word drabble for anybody who buys one for me in any of my three fandoms. Inspired by Doctor Who's "Turn Left:" Pick one of my stories and tell me a point in the tale that you'd change. Something tiny (e.g. "and then Harry told a knock knock joke instead of a light bulb joke") or big (e.g. "and then June found Koh's spine and ripped it out before he could crush her arm and steal her face") and I'll tell you how that one difference would have altered the course of the entire story.

I think it would be fun to talk about stories, but the usual memes are like, "What happens next?" "Tell me about Character A?" Which isn't so much talking about stories as it is writing more of a story. But you know how sometimes you read something and you're like, "I got ___ out of this story, I wonder if I have that right?" or "What on earth was ____ supposed to be?" and it's too awkward to ask the author? Now you could totally ask!

I've heard people say that writing is hard because you have to make decisions, but we never really talk about the decisions we make with stories or why we make them. We talk about plot bunnies, but not about how we actually turn them into a story.

And it seems like a lot more fun to do that than to do working.

So, if you wanted, ask me questions! (Or use this to ask your flist to ask you questions).

What were you trying to do [here]? Why did you decide to ____? This is what I thought about xyz, is that what you were going for? What made you write ____? Why did you decide to do this? And so on.
