The Vids are a Go

My appeal went through on Vimeo, and they restored all of my vids.  Reference was made to my "well-reasoned and polite message," which made me feel good about my ability to keep my panic to myself.  However, this whole experience convinced me to move my vids to Critical Commons, a site explicitly friendly to vids and vidders, where I now have an account and have uploaded all of my vids.  Unfortunately, neither Dreamwidth nor Livejournal allow embedded videos from Critical Commons, so I have to link to them in my entries instead.  All of my vid entries are now updated with the new links, I have downloaded copies from Vimeo of the three vids of mine that I lost in the move to my new computer, and I've deleted my Vimeo account.

My new Critical Commons account

Glad this had a relatively happy ending! you have all your vids and a host site, so that's nice.

The internet is still grappling with fandom, even though, as you pointed out with actual evidence in your letter, vidding is acceptable and legal. It's weird that this is an ongoing issue for so many sites.

When I went to go file a ticket to ask for Critical Commons embeds on Dreamwidth, I saw someone already opened one last week. Here's hoping it rolls through sooner rather than later.

Woo-hoo, congratulations!! While I have nothing but respect for your power of reasoning and politeness, I hate that it was necessary in the first place and I'm glad you've decided to move. And while I haven't seen the Vimeo response myself, it sounds from where I'm sitting like like they were all, "We'll be generous and let you have the product of hours of your labor and creativity back because we're impressed by how articulate and well-spoken you are." I will eat crow on that last statement, though, if they in fact admitted that they were wrong on the law and on every other conceivable level.

Actually, that's pretty much how it went. There was a definite We-think-you're-pobably-right-on-the-law--so-you-can-have-your-videos-but-we're-cowards-and-worried-about-being-fined-or-sued-anyway-so-please-leave-and-stop-making-us-uncomfortable feeling to it all. So I obliged. They were however extremely polite and helpful, and after I deleted my account, they emailed me again to make sure I had downloaded the videos I needed.

Glad you got your stuff back and have the vids somewhere safe!

Thank you. It's good to know there won't be any sweeping take downs where I am now.

So is Critical Commons a pretty good site then? I've had this vid just sitting on my computer for roughly a year now because I have nowhere I trust to post it.

Aside from the fact that the video quality leaves something to be desired, yeah, it's a good site. Very friendly to vidders.
