Going to be traveling and bored meme

This looks like I can answer with my cell phone keyboard!  (On a side note, please forgive my more numerous than usual spelling mistakes in this.  I don't have spellcheck on my phone, and my spelling is lamentable at the best of times.)

Ganked from[personal profile] sholio

Give me a character and I'll tell you a piece of my personal headcanon. Any fandom is welcome here, provided that I am reasonably familiar with it.

Bumi

[identity profile] attackfish.livejournal.com 2012-08-03 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Two for the price of one!

1. I always imagined Bumi the elder having ADHD as a child and bi polar disorder as an adult. His wild, crazy bouts of energetic brillience are balenced out by prolonged periods of depression where he has to force himself through the day. Captivity under Mai's family was very difficult for him, as he had to not succomb to one of his black spells while still being abe to wait for the right moment.

2. I don't have a headcanon for Bumi the younger yet, except that I bet he was an obnoxious older brother to Tenzin/little brother to Kya.

Thanks!

(Although I'd forgotten there was a second Bumi. Sorry 'bout that, should've been clearer in my request.)

Don't worry, I didn't mind.

Mozzie?

[identity profile] luunyscarlet.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Zuko.

[identity profile] floranna.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
Fshpat, Zuko is taken. Ummm...

Mozzie?

No, that's taken too. Seriously, I didn't notice it until I wrote that.

Mako?

[identity profile] attackfish.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I have a lot of headcanon for Mozzie, which piece to pick?

I think Mozzie is faking some of his more extreme quirks. Don't get me wrong, I think he's naturally an anxious oddball, but I think he realized a long time ago that people underestimate him when he plays up the oddness, and that it makes people forget that he's a formidable intelligence, supremely gifted at separating them from their valuables, or anything else he wants to possess for himself. This is where some of his more out there conspiracy theories come from, and also where his highly variable food intolerances come from. Or maybe, I just don't like what the writers have been doing with a portrayal of part of my illness, but I like to think he plays up the hypochondria. I also think he taught this trick to Neal, who plays up the flirting, carefree, pretty boy persona instead.

[identity profile] attackfish.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
This is worse than Mozzie. I have developed so much headcanon for Zuko it isn't even funny. How about a bit of headcanon for the entire Ozai-and-spawn category?

I like to think that before Ozai decided Zuko was such a failure, he treated him a lot like we see him treating Azula in canon. Zuko was the golden boy and heir apparent, and this is what Zuko meant when he talked about a time when his family was actually happy. Ozai wasn't a warm, caring, emotionally healthy person, but he hadn't really started with the bulk of the abuse yet. Then Azula started really excelling, and Ozai decided Zuko wasn't worthy of his vision, and started treating her like the golden child and Zuko like dirt. This is why Zuko is convinced daddy dearest loves him, and also why he thinks if he just does the impossible, he will be the golden boy again. He also thinks that his father doesn't see capturing the Avatar (who hadn't been seen for a hundred years, no less!) is impossible for Zuko. Zuko sees his inability to do it as a failure to live up to his father's reasonable standards, and that Azula would be able to do it. Not only has Ozai by doing this put his children in direct competition, but now every time he abuses Zuko, he's also abusing Azula. Azula remembers Zuko being the golden boy. She has seen the price of imperfection in Ozai's eyes, and she's terrified of paying it.

[identity profile] luunyscarlet.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I completely agree with your headcanon ;). It definitely explains why Zuko refused to believe for a very long time that his daddy didn't love him and why Azula was so obsessed with being perfect.

[identity profile] attackfish.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That family is so warped.

[identity profile] attackfish.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Ever since Mako and Bolin's parents died, he has been taking care of his brother, and he has done everything he can to make sure that Bolin had everything he needed and always felt safe and loved. Because of this, he is somewhere between an older brother and a parent to Bolin, and also, he has never had the space to feel safe himself. He never got the chance to mess around with other kids his age, so he doesn't get a lot of the social things, and misinterprets the signals people send him, and the ones he sends out. He also never learned how to have equal friendships. He has been the only person he could rely on. This is why he gravitates to women in need. It isn't, as huge amounts of fandom speculate, because he likes weak women, it's because he feels more comfortable and secure when he's the one being relied on and not the other way around. Even in relationships where both people rely on each other, he is always subconsciously going what if they leave? What if they die? If they need him, they won't leave him, and if he doesn't need them, if they do, he won't be left in a lurch again. Plus, he's used to being needed by Bolin, so it feels comfortable.

Unlike my other headcanons, which I'm perfectly happy never making it into canon, I really think this or something like this needs to be made explicitly canon, because fandom really hates the poor guy and is calling him an abusive monster when he's really just a bit of a jerk.

[identity profile] floranna.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I've been thinking myself, even if I haven't been able to put it in words. He did treat Asami and Korra badly, but he isn't bad person. Just kid who had to take too much responsibility too early and hasn't quite finished growing up completely.

[identity profile] floranna.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I ganked this meme from you if you are interested. ^^

[identity profile] attackfish.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, he does not to right by our girls, but Zuko was a complete asshole to Iroh for most of the show, and we love him anyway. This fandom is not shy about loving jerkfaces as long as they're also total angstmuffins with the potential to do better.

Of course a lot of the problem is that fandom wants him to be Zuko, and... no.

...I'll be right over.

[identity profile] floranna.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
He is not Zuko. I absolutely adore (and obsess over) Zuko, and I like Mako, but even I don't consider them to be same type of character.

[identity profile] attackfish.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Me neither. Oh Fandom...

[identity profile] abricot-vert.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Asami?

[identity profile] attackfish.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Subconsciously, Asami has known for a long time that her father changed after her mother died, and that there was something dark inside him, but she didn' want to admit it to herself or to anyone else. This is part of the reason she was so defensive and protective when Korra made her accusation. She's also gotten used to doing for herself, emotionally speaking, since her mother died, because her father was busy secretly nursing revenge fantasies. Her father's money and the servants took care of her physical needs, but no one has really taken care of her. She pretends to herself, to the world, and to her father that she and her father have a loving, close relationship, because it's easier than acknowledging how much he doesn't bother to pay attention to her anymore.

Also, Asami's mother had the same fashionable hair stylist that Tahno now uses. Look at her picture (http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120627090441/avatar/images/3/32/Sato_family.png) and tell me I'm wrong.

headcanon on Asami's mother's hairdstylist aquired :)

This is really interesting, it makes a lot of sense. i just wish we'd gotten more Asami!

This is why I'm looking forward to the next season. Moar Asami! (And Lin, and maybe some Iroh for variety)

Ozai is so warped, and yes especially to the Zuko-as-object-lesson bit.
