So I just finished writing something so impossibly sweet that I swear all my teeth just rotted in my head from it. And since I have to write floranna's fic for

help_haiti (and her request is full of lovely angst) I need to get myself in a darker writing groove. To further this goal, I’m watching Criminal Minds, and I’m asking you guys to send me your darkest, most angst producing prompts for Avatar: The Last Airbender. Comment with up to five, and I’ll guarantee you at least one commentfic. I’ll probably answer with more, knowing me.

3) Inspired by one of your other drabbles. Ty Lee is an Airbender, now make it dark.

4) At the North Pole, some goes wrong with Koizilla, and Aang isn't able to defuse. And thus did the Fire Nation sink beneath the waves.

5) The world grumbles that Aang is to forgiving, to pacifistic. They are fools, imagine if her wasn't forgiving. The Fire Nation may be the first, it would not be the last.

I saw you putting this up at the Avatar Big Bang. It's not much like the extended prompt, but... I hope you like it anyway.

The water swallowed the Avatar up without a ripple, but when it gave him up again, it sprayed forth like a fountain from the oasis. “Oh Spirits,” Aang whispered, but they were the problem, weren’t they.

“Aang!” Katara ran forward and seized him in a hug. “Are you alright?”

“No,” he said into her shoulder. “I’m not.”

When Iroh came to put his hand on his nephew’s shoulder, Zuko’s feet were dangling off the bridge. The Water Tribe denizens stepped around the two of them without a word. No one wanted to realize they were there. “Nephew-”

“What are we supposed to do now?” he muttered.

“Nephew-” Iroh sat down next to him and put his arms around his nephew, but Zuko shrugged them off.

“You heard him; they’re all gone, everyone at home, in the colonies, everywhere, there’s nothing...”

“There is us,” Iroh put his arms back around him. “We are left.”

His face crumpled, and Zuko did everything he could to stop the tears. After the first few fell, he swiped the rest away, face hardening. “We can’t stay here.”

“We shouldn’t spurn the Water Tribe’s hospitality after Zhao invaded!” His uncle’s arms were so tight around him. “We do not have anywhere to go anyway.” The Avatar had stood there and told the tribal council all about how all the people, all the buildings the Fire Nation had ever built, the royal palace, villages, ancient Sun Warrior temples, were suddenly gone, washed away.

Zuko couldn’t make himself shove his uncle away again. The way everyone there looked at him, the faces stuffed full of loathing and pity, left him sick to his stomach. He just felt... lost. “What am I supposed to do?”

“Find somewhere to stay,” his uncle murmured. “Settle down with someone.” His voice kept getting rougher and rougher until Zuko thought it would wear away. “Raise your children teach them...” he choked. “That’s all you can-” Zuko wrapped his arms around his uncle, and held him as he broke down.

I do. I wasn't expecting it to be like the extended prompt and I don't think it should have been. One was a drabble, one was a prompt for a 10-50k fic. The extended prompt was me thinking on this topic and how it could have beeen spun out for a large fic, but for a short piece, this was just perfect.

I'm really really glad you like this. It took a lot of thought to figure out just how I was going to do it. I really feel awful for Aang, Iroh, and Zuko here. I'm not nice to them, ever, really.

Well it 'is' a darkfic meme, if they're happy, your probably doing something wrong. (unless it's evil AU versions of them, then happyness works)

Or if the happy people are Ozai, Azula, Long Feng, etc...

(I also just realized I made a typo in prompt five, miswriting "he" as "her"... now I'm imagining a super unforgiving genderbended Aang.)

Just think: Zuko could declare himself Prince of the Fire Nation with no one else saying otherwise! :D

And then he'd have to deal with the guilt of never regaining his honor in the eyes of his father, and maybe some lingering guilt about Azula (she was his sister, after all) and Mai... Ty Lee is probably safe. She's in the circus.

Gosh, all that would be left is mostly Earth Kingdom people with a smattering of WT. What an empty planet.
