Birthday AU Commentfic Meme!

It’s my birth month, and to celebrate, I’m hosting a commentfic meme! I’m in the mood to write some AU fics, so that’s the theme of the meme. I’m open to both Avatar: the Last Airbender and Harry Potter requests, and I’m also taking requests in any of my existing AUs (Except Children of Mars), including the ones I established im my last commentfic meme, as well as new ones. Comment with up to five requests, and I’ll guarantee you at least one commentfic. I’ll probably answer with more, knowing me.

It was always summer in the Fire Nation. The tropical heat dripped through the open windows. Sweat soaked into Zura’s shift and mingled with the liquid running down her legs and onto the bed beneath her.

She yelled as the baby’s head slipped free of her body, and he breathed, half shout of pain, half victory cry. The baby started to cry too, loud, healthy screams. Her courtiers all around breathed sighs of relief. Zura breathed deep. The world widened to include them too, and a knot of embarrassment pressed against her lungs. They had come to see their Firelord bring a new heir into the world. Her mother had done this.

Her mother had brought her into the world this way, surrounded by all these people, there to see something more than a child being born, to see a princess being born.

Her son was being born to a dead father. Lucky son.

Zura tried to smile, but she was just too tired, so she just lay there and panted as the doctors cut the umbilical cord and handed her son to her.

No one was ever going to try to deny her children their titles ever again.

It was easier this time, even with all the people; she wasn’t stuck in the middle of some swamp, she was home, she was...

Home was the part that mattered.

It was how Lan Min should have been born, but that didn’t matter anymore.

By the way, as to my Harry Potter Fusion, I wrote it with the idea in mind that Voldemort was Zuko’s dad (The kid can’t catch a paternal break, and who else would be Bellatrix’s baby daddy?) but I just can’t make the timeline work with Bella having Zuko in prison and Zuko starting school after the war. Did disembodied spirit!Voldy impregnate Bella? Kinky!

Does this mean I can entice you to write more "Sun Child" fics?

I hope to^^ I'll get back to it in time, I've got a couple of ways it can go in my head, especially the time in Ba Sing Se- it's just pinning the sucker down that's being a pain. Hm- maybe a mini-meme? I've got a ton of prompts to fill in the rest, but maybe going at it sideways instead of head-on...

The thought that several nobles would witness the birth squicks me a bit, but I love it. The kid was born after the third season, right?

Well, I would say that Bella survived the second war, but died few years later in Azkaban, and that this story happened several years after the war.

Or that Zuko was sent to Iroh afterwards and kept those years in a different country, away from England and all the troubles there, then Iroh comes back to help at the rebuilding, or something like that.

Yeah, I know. But for me, giving birth feels so...personal. I would only want there the hospital people needed, my mum and partner. Not anyone else.

My mom almost gave birth to me in a hot tub. Very public.

Me and my all siblings? By c-section.

But those are my issues.

They also couldn't get me to stop crying at the hospital until they put me in warm water. Then I gave this ridiculous little sigh. And my dad had to be taken away, because he turned white as a sheet, and the docs thought they were going to have to hospitalize him, meanwhile my brother was causing havoc over at the house of the nice Mormon family across the street, and...

At least it was a very quick birth.

Well, my mum is the only child and everyone was a bit thinking that my dad is a sworn bachelor (even if he has always wanted kids) and as I am the oldest, my birth was a bit explosive in our family. ^^ Considering that I am an accident, it always fills me with joy to know that I was so wanted and wished when I was actually born.

Which was exactly what I was thinking of. It was common throughout dynastic European nations until modern times, and I have no idea about Asian ones.

I'm not sure about Asian societies, either, but I wouldn't be surprised. I think that the idea in Europe was that if a bunch of people witnessed the birth (and the gender of the infant), nobody could then go and switch the legitimate (girl) baby for the newly-born son of the milkmaid or something.

It was also to make sure the kid was alive, so if the child was stillborn, the mother couldn't slip in someone else's living child. First time this wasn't done in England was with James II's son, and thus everybody thought he wasn't really James and his wife's boy.

I actually would be. I know at least in the Middle East, there were major cultural prohibitions against any male other than family seeing a woman in a state of undress no matter what she was doing (assisting doctors were sometimes blinded after helping with the births of royal women, part of the reason for midwifery in the Middle East) and in the Far East, multiple wives made it so that the birth of any one child was unimportant. Each of many could become the heir at his father's say so.

"I know at least in the Middle East, there were major cultural prohibitions against any male other than family seeing a woman in a state of undress no matter what she was doing" I was always under the impression that it was FEMALE courtiers witnessing the births of children in England, not male and female, for that reason.

Nope, it was both. Women weren't credible witnesses, and seeing as this was such a huge part of the national interest...

Yep. Oh God, it would freak me out so much if it were me, and I'm amazed she didn't set them all on fire.

But Molly Weasley killed her so EPICALLY, and I don't want to touch that. I see Zuko being born between the two wars, and coming to school between five and ten years after the start of the second war. Maybe the first thing Voldy did after coming back was go for a booty call, even before he broke his lady-love loose? Or maybe Voldiwhisp and she tried to conduct a ritual in Azkaban, in which she would conceive of a new body for him, but it didn't work, and she had babies instead?

Also, in this fic, Iroh's the head guy at said orphanage. And, Azula's Zuko's twin, and she's pissed about being sorted into Slytherin, because she thinks it's a bad career move if she wants to keep her machinations secret. The girl inherited daddy's creepy child thing so much.

Maybe he and Bella had planned a special, secret fail-safe plan beforehand and it failed spectacularly?

I want to read more of it.

And it didn't entirely fail! I mean, this helps Voldy not at all, but his daughter makes a good go at being the next Dark Lady. Poor Zuko. He'll never get a job now.

I agree, especially with the gag part.

Also, Zuko's going to have some kind of adventure with a snake. And that nasty parseltongue's going to give him away. Not a nice thing to find out, being voldy spawn. And Jet's going to think he should die, because of this, and Zuko's a hard core theater geek in this, and Azula's favorite spell is Incendio, used as a curse, (and then she discovers fiendfyre), and...

No, this is not the universe I need to explore.
