Since I write a lot of canon divergence AUs, the worldbuilding's lack of sensibility is a little maddening for me. I can only go a very few ways without running smack into big problems.
I think the Americanized Halloween has become the standard English one too, at least my English aunt talks about what her family did for it, and it sounds a lot like what we do in the states.
