I'm actually writing the chapter now in which she grows up. My best friend, who is fond of the Marauders, calls her lady James, which should tell you something about her motivations. she's extremely thoughtless and careless.
It wasn't so much that Harry switched back to Ginny so quickly (though you could call it a rebound effect) but that he rightly judged that if he hadn't agreed to get back together with her, she would press for why, and prod, and make a real annoyance of herself. After all, they hadn't broken it off permanently, just during the war. Also, he felt guilty because he slept with someone else while their relationship was in such a state of uncertainty.
