I just want to say 'this' in response to most of this post. I think a huge part of the narrative is that Zuko is genuinely Ozai's son, that Ozai is crap at parenting/husbandry/life, and that crap parenting and cultural conditioning can be survived and gotten beyond. And I hope the conclusion of The Search will bear this out.
