There are all kinds of things that we know in our heads that we still need to hear someone else say sometimes, especially when everyone and everything is telling the opposite on a daily basis.
Sometimes it works like that. For me, it didn't hit until over a year after I got away from my second stalker. Don't get me wrong, I had trauma symptoms before that, but that was when I fell off an emotional cliff, and I've been getting back up from that ever since. We go into "crisis mode" during times of high situational stress, and the adrenaline helps hold us together until we're out of danger. After that's gone, whoosh.
