So sorry about the family friend. And cutting off your fingertip sounds painful, yowch. In Korea we say that bad luck at the start of the year is "patching up" worse fortune down the road, kind of like a cosmic safety valve I guess. Let's hope the rest of the year only brings good things. And congrats on losing the menorah!
