WEll, in the sciences, it's much easier for someone to go along and be a technician or a drone - just follow the experimental steps, get results, done. Not so much on the creativity front ,youknow? but in the humanities, you have to learn to present the information in a new light, see new patterns, something. It's not like you will get anywhere if you don't use creativity.
IT's what I don't like about JKR - Hermione is supposed to be intelligent, but she's just a walking encyclopedia for Harry Potter and his needs. It's not even as if HP is using his friends' talents intelligently, it's just as if they are supposed to come up with something at the right time for him. The ones who are very intelligent/creative? Snape and Hermione. And Hermione isn't given much creativity, or scope in her intelligence, she's just shown to *know*, and that's it. And Harry Potter Hates snape, even all the way to the end.
Like, sure, he is perfectly happy to use The HBP's work, but fuck if it turns out to be Snape. Not much was done about the HBP - his intelligence and creativity was sidelined just to show HP's... I dunno, bravery? Ability to read and follow instructions when it suits him?
