Believe me, loads of political scientists at least are just willing to plug data into established doctrines. Obviously wrong established doctrines. I spend a lot of time knocking heads together over that.
All of Hermione's intelligence is recall based. Maybe because that comes to me easily, I'm not impressed. harry shows flashes of insight and creativity, but mostly he's too lazy to bother, letting other people come up with the answers instead. Snape, who is creative and inventive is scorned within the book and decidedly an author's unfavorite. Most of Snape's short shaft can be blamed on that right there. JKR I guess didn't account for a big chunk of her fanbase being Smart People Who Were Picked On
