They do do a fine job on their own don't they? :)

But a good chunk of the Snape/Harry antipathy in book one is due Harry thinking Snape is out to kill him. (Possitive feed back loop: Snape acts like a jerk, Harry decides Snape is out to get him and acts like brat to him, Snape responses by being even more of a jerk...) When Harry finds out that no, Snape was protecting him all the time, usually in stories this leads to a big sappy "nice guy after all" moment. Dumbledore heads this off at the pass by telling Harry Snape only saved him because because he hated James for saving his life. Not only is this BS, it is BS designed to keep Harry from changing his opinion on Snape. Dumbledore may have promised not to tell the truth, but he didn't have to tell that particular lie.

You're right, the prophesy says "will be born as the seventh month dies", but Snape misses the part with the future tense. He only hears "approaches" and "born as the seventh month dies" which can mean anyone with an end of July birthday get steadily nearer. Or any other interpretation of seventh month you can come up with. ^_^
