I have hope that it will get better with time - Sims 2 introduced gay marriage, and with the new "character traits" you can have some kinds of mental disability, like agoraphobia - the sim will get unhappy if there are too many people around, and suddenly snap and run away to hide in an empty room. So I have hopes for the Sims 4 or 5... or maybe 6, considering that the trait is called "loner".
