Hi, I hope you don't mind me commenting, but I hunted this down after our conversation. I think this is a FANTASTIC post.
In re to mainstream media portrayals of characters with disabilities, have you seen the TV show, Friday Night Lights? One of the main characters became paralyzed early on and I thought the show did a pretty good job of representing a whole human being with a disability as opposed to a stereotype.
