“Devastated, the woman unleashed a terrible display of her earthbending power.” Katara paused with a smile. Aang grinned. It was about to get good. “She could have destroyed them all. But instead she declared the war over. Both villages helped her build a new city where they would live together in peace.” As Katara finished, she rolled her eyes and glanced back at Aang. “It says ‘Love is brightest in the dark.’”
Aang leaned against the tomb wall and and huffed. Stupid story. Just when he had thought it was going to get good, the woman wimped out, and just-
“I don’t get it,” Katara muttered, glancing back at the mural resentfully. “I mean, they killed him. She should have made them pay.”
Aang smiled warmly, but when Katara looked his way, he hid it hastily. “So how are we going to find our way out of here?”
Katara shrugged helplessly, but her eyes landed on the mural again, and then on the relief of the two lovers kissing. “I have a crazy idea.”
“What?”
Katara shook her head. “Never mind, it’s too crazy.”
“We’re stuck down here. It’s not like idea you have is going to make it worse.”
“I was thinking… the curse says we’ll be trapped in here forever unless we trust in love.”
“Right…” It didn’t really sound like what Avatars were supposed to trust in.
“And here it says ‘love is brightest in the dark’ and…” Katara looked down. “Has a picture of them kissing.”
“Um...”
Katara still couldn’t meet his eyes. “Maybe we should kiss?”
