This isn’t an answer to the “chillin’ together” prompt. I have an answer for that coming. This is just something the request made me think of.
Zuko owed it to his people to fight for the most advantageous trade deal he could. It was a ruler’s duty. It wasn’t like he wasn’t over his head, anyway.
It was just, the other ruler was supposed to be pushing against him, trying to get the best deal for his people he could. It wasn’t supposed to be so easy to get whatever he wanted out of Kuei, no matter what it did to the Earth Kingdom. Kuei made it so easy. It was almost like he deserved what he got.
Which, Zuko realized with nauseating clarity was probably the way Azula had always seen him.
Which made Zuko feel worse.
At least he felt guilty about it. That was good, right?
