Considering the way Civilized Western Society handled things for a long time, the male healers would have considered themselves 'professionals' and had women around to do the cleaning up, i.e getting the icky barf and blood out of the way after the men had done the important chakra realignment stuff. Or possibly women healers would only have been allowed to heal women? They certainly wouldn't have ever been allowed to learn how to fight, no society busy disenfranchising a group wants that group to know how to kick some ass.
