I refer to this as my "Harry and Snape have a touching moment" milestone, and it kicked my ass. I don't do touching. It was really really not a happy chapter, which the last one was in part. It made me kinda want to cook the characters soup and put them to bed.
On the other hand, they're snarking and fighting and clawing their way to a reconciliation of sorts, so that makes it easier to write.
Yes, they hate each other (though for Harry, it may have faded to strong dislike) but I think Snape hated Tobias Snape as well, so it isn't so bad a trade.
