As much as most of us fans love the bromance, there are so many times on the show when the two of them just talk past each other. I find that dynamic a lot less comfortable, but a lot more interesting.
I wrote two fics in very close succession with the main characters sunk deep into depression (he other of which is a longfic in the A:tlA fandom, and I won't begin posting until it's complete) and both fics involved captivity and what those main characters were willing to do to get out of that situation. It's a theme I like playing with. I also like playing with subtle hierarchies, which makes me all kinds of happy that you noticed the different levels El and Neal are on.
It's not so much that I don't like vampires, so much as I really don't find them sexy. Most of the modern depictions of them, even horror depictions have them as sexy, which I don't get. I always thought that if I ever wrote vampires, I would write about the things they couldn't do than about the things they could, and including an original story, his is the second time I've done so.
