I also liked the origin story of the villagers following the migrating dragons. It was a neat answer to why there's this group of firebenders living so far afield.
Do Kyoshi Island and the Fire Nation have a kind of quid pro quo going on? The islanders don't kick up any fuss abroad and in return Firelord treats them like a Taiwan; officially they're part of the Fire Nation but in practice they're fully independent, not having to contribute troops to the war?
