I'm a sucker for Childhood fic for villains, so this was a treat for me. Him working his way up the ladder from refugee status just makes Azula's Hannibal Lecture all the more galling. The point about "good girls" not bending outside the home neatly explains the lack of non-Toph female earthbenders in canon. (Makes me wonder if the Krew's opponents in pro-bending matches will have any female earthbenders.)
