Hmm... I'm quite enjoying this alternate universe! So biological things are slowly dying?

I think that it makes sense for certain manufactured goods - stuff that requires, y'know, INDUSTRY and thus a surplus of labour - like metal would be in high demand in this world.
I really liked this pair of lines: "People wondered out loud what kind of person would throw away a miracle, what was wrong with him. /Or wrong with the child." It makes sense that actual SIBLINGS would be a bit of a miracle, if fertility has gone down so much...
I like this Zuko, too. I get the impression he's like "yeah, sure, uncle, mm-hmm, of course you used to boil leaves for something that tasted good but had no purpose." XD
Zuko's motivations in all of this are MUCH more noble! ;)
