So my mother's dog tried to kill my bird...

My mother's puppy, Daisy somehow bit my cockatiel, Sully through the bars of his cage, puncturing his wing and his body, and "de-gloving" his leg, which is to say removing all of the skin and rolling it down to his foot.  He is being cared for round the clock by the local bird vet, and may well not survive the night.  If he dies, he may lose his foot.  I sat there with him in the car while my mother drove with him tucked into my chest and just...  I'm terrified for him.  He's my baby.  I'm hopeful, because he started to perk up and come out of shock on the way to the vet, and headbutted me every time I stopped scratching his neck, but I really really could use some distraction right about now.

ETA: He survived the night, and when I went to see him, he chirped at me, and looked at me like, "Wow, last night sucked, Mom, can I go home now?"  The vet thinks he'll be fine, but she's not letting me take him home yet.  Unfortunately, the reason I was at the vet was because his mate, Archie, it turns out, had also been injured.  Daisy got her leg.  In the middle of the night, it swelled up, and she started biting at it, and when we uncovered her this morning, she had gone into shock.  The vet is not optimistic about her chances.  She was much worse off than Sully was, and I was terrified she was going to die in the car.  We now think Daisy got Archie's leg, and Sully and Beni (my lovebird boy) came over to defend them, and Sully was injured in the fight.  Beni has a bruised nare, and spent last night trying to feed Archie.  Archie is drinking apple juice and is being treated for shock, and the longer she lives, the more likely she'll come out of it okay.  All we can do is hope.

ETA2: Archie passed away.  Aparently, she also had head trauma from the attack, and was having seizures.  One of them killed her a few minutes ago.  She was six years old.

I'm so sorry. I hope he comes through just fine. What type of distraction are you looking for? Something to read? A game to play? (I tend to get sucked into Text Twist, which I'm sure you can find by googling it. It also requires thinking, so it might help as a distraction.)

I have addicts in the family, so I really really don't like watching inebriated people. (Yeah, I did not party) and *blinks* I'm bisexual (which isn't the best descriptor, mulitsexual fits better), sexually active, and monogamous, whereas my best friend is trans*, pansexual, and poly, and my other best friend is genderqueer and monosexual. Very liberal, I assure you. Also more than usually well schooled in anatomy. The videos were kind of beginner level, though.

So, as far as distraction goes, you can listen to me complain about A:TLA. Sound like fun?

I always thought Aang's fun-loving, irresponsible and downright hedonistic behavior (e.g., his trip to Kyoshi Island) was at odds with his monkly upbringing. On the other hand, he's also twelve at the time; not always living up to his culture's standards comes with the territory. I do wonder whether Aang will end up adopting a mix of cultures from around the world and across time (as befits the Avatar, I suppose), and will seem less strictly Air as time goes on.

Sokka trains as a swordsmith unbelievably quickly. It broke my suspension of disbelief.

Fun fact: in typing that, I initially wrote "Sokka trans" and am now wondering about that idea. Thoughts?

Sokka was very rushed in the third season, and yet, after several days of being sidetracked, they arrived early. What gives?

I have this horribly bad Jak and Daxter crossover idea. Somehow it involves Zuko losing his right eye and swamp dude telling him blindness is like death in that it’s an illusion and Daxter in the Avatar world on Zuko’s ship and Jak not getting saved in time and Aang saving Haven City. Or maybe it would involve Zuko doing that... and walking into walls because he refuses to admit how bad his left eye’s vision is, which would be humorous, but also serious underneath the humor.

Ironically, when Ozai made Azula Firelord, I thought she was hallucinating it.

I don't necessarily see Aang as hedonistic, but he's far from the perfect monk. On the other hand, twelve year old boys =/= perfect monks. I wonder if as the last Air nomad, he ever feels guilty because he isn't the sort of Platonic ideal of an Air Nomad.

We see an unnamed fire avatar bending lava at some point. I've seen it theorized that it doesn't like to respond to earthbending techniques and that it would have to be a specialized skill, like sandbending. Maybe Avatars, who have to know fire and waterbending would be better at bending hot liquid earth.

Bet she could if she were close enough. It seems like while she was perfecting it, she did much better if she were touching it.

I know nothing about Jak and Daxter.

Oh yes.

He was old and weak and tired? He didn't know how? It was just too much to do it while the volcano was exploding around him? He was weak from breathing the ash and the volcanic gas? It wasn't the lava, but the other volcanic substances causing most of the problems? (it usually isn't the lava in real life) we don't know.

That must be so sad, to love both the killer and the killed. Yet it's strangely beautiful, too. Did you find out how Daisy could attack through the bars of the cage? It sounds like quite a pitched battle took place there. Also, how's Sully's foot?

Any strange beauty disappeared the moment she dug the bloodstained clothes I had been wearing to take the birds to the vet and started playing with them and nuzzling them.

We think Archie was standing near the bars, and Daisy managed to wrap her tongue around her foot and drag her forward to bash her into the bars. Then Sully and Beni flew down to drive Daisy off, and Sully batted at her, which enabled her to grab his wing, pull him close, and bite his back.

Sully will almost certainly keep his foot. They were able to bring him out of shock before any infection set in, so they were able to give him antibiotics and clean it, and he's up, and around, and charming all of the vet techs.
