The Avatar_500 Participation Meme

We're just over a day away from the deadline at
avatar_500 for prompt 49, Lake, and we have only one entry. So, to prove that I am not above using bribery, for anybody who writes and posts a fill for this round to the community before the deadline (Saturday, April 7, 10:00 PM, MDT), I will drabble up an answer to any one Avatar: the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra prompt they give me here at this post. This includes all of my existing AUs (excepting Ice Flows Through) as well as unrelated prompts. Or, I will make a 400x600 pixel banner for any Avatar: the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra fanfic (excepting NC-17) written by the requester that they ask me to. (Please provide a link). Furthermore, after the deadline, I will do the same thing for anybody who writes and posts to the community a fill for the next biweekly prompt, Return. And yes, that means if you post a fic for each, you get two requests.
A few rules-

Date: 2012-04-07 10:46 pm (UTC)Piandao - Fanfare
Date: 2012-04-08 12:19 am (UTC)He remembers that moment, hanging on the edge, bowing, and just walking out the door. He remembers the days of leave, and how he stood his ground and let them pass, until they were gone and he was still on his island. He remembered the way he kept having to make the choice to stay, over and over and over, and he did. Those are the parts he remembers, because walking away was harder than it looked.
Other people remember the hundred men who couldn't drag him back. Piandao remembers that part too, because it was so much easier than it looked.
He paints these days, and writes, and makes swords, and keeps his little pocket of peace, and hopes it makes some kind of example after the war ends, because peace is exactly as hard as it looks.

Sokka had never liked the city. "Come on, Suki!"
"This city is no place for a polar bear-dog, Sokka." She rubbed her temples. "We don't even have a fenced in yard."
Stupid ornamental hedge. "We can build one, a polar bear-dog is perfect."
"No!"
"We gotta do something," he exclaimed. "He starts school in two months! And a polar bear-dog can you know, protect him, not just lead him everywhere-" He didn't like the look of some of those kids they were sending him to school with, not at all.
"He'll have Kanna and Kyoshi for that," Suki reminded him.
"And I'm not helpless," a voice piped up.
Suki and Sokka stopped talking and turned towards their son. "Where did you come from?" demanded Sokka.
"I'm not," Piandao insisted instead of answering. "Besides, I don't want a polar bear-dog. I want a wolf-bat." He opened his shirt to let a tiny, ugly nose peek out."
"Yahhh!" Sokka yelled, grabbing his boomerang.
Suki grabbed it by the scruff of its neck and pulled it out of her son's shirt and up into the air. "Where did you get that thing?"
"I knew I shouldn't have told you about her," Piandao groaned, snatching the cub back. "Kiko's dad killed her mom clearing out one of the old train tunnels. He said he was gonna drown her cub, so Kiko and I, um..."
Sokka grimaced. "You're not keeping that thing."
"But dad, it would be so cool. I'd be the only person in the whole world with a seeing-eye wolf-bat!"
Suki grinned wickedly at her husband. "I think it's a great idea."
"Please mom?"
"Go right ahead."
He dashed out of the room, and into the house's familiar corridors before she could change her mind.
Suki turned to Sokka. "Look on the bright side. At least Kyoshi won't try to eat this one like she did with the last stray Piandao brought home."
"Okay," he said slowly, getting up to follow their son out. He paused in the doorway. "But you are totally the one who gets to explain a seeing-eye wolf-bat to his teachers."
"Hey!" she yelped, darting out of the room after him. "No I'm not! No way!" But he just laughed at her from halfway down the hall.
Re: Blind Sukka Spawn
Date: 2012-04-08 12:19 pm (UTC)I asked for this one because, ages ago, it was an idea I threw out for the first AtLA Big Bang, and you'd commented that you liked the idea but already had a project. I figured it'd be a safe bet for a
briberequest. And a lovely fill it was! Also, naming one of their kids after Piandao? D'awwwwww.

Date: 2012-04-09 01:12 am (UTC)"So they gave me an empty bottle." Ozai took it and smiled coldly. "And they're hoping this will keep me from destroying their whole pathetic civilization?" He uncorked the bottle.
Mist poured out, and the spirit materialized. "I must thank you for releasing me," the spirit grinned, mouth full of sharp teeth. "You may choose how you would like to die."
Ozai opened his mouth, then closed it again, glaring. At last he said tersely, "Old age." The Si Wong Desert was going to be a heap of lightning glass by the end of the month.
The spirit waved its hand. Ozai looked down at his hand as the flesh grew gnarled, and the muscles shriveled over bone. He moaned in horror as his voice grew frail with age. And then, he felt his heart just... stop.
"Old age," the spirit said as the Firewood fell. "Like I haven't heard that before." The messenger stared, frozen, and the spirit's grin widened. "Boo."
The messenger gasped, and fled.

"What, again?" Zuko exclaimed, trying to shove his arm back on. "Where does he keep finding them?"

Date: 2012-04-09 02:12 pm (UTC)Metaphorical genies and Acts of Providence
Date: 2012-04-10 01:01 am (UTC)After generations of Fire Lords failed to find you, now the Universe delivers you to me as an act of providence.
-Ozai, book three, chapter twenty, "Into the Inferno"
"Admiral Zhao's dispatch, my lord," the soldier panted, dropping to his knees.
Ozai jerked his head up, sending water cascading out of the basin the servants were using to wash his hair. "You aren't going to live very long, soldier, if you don't learn not to barge in on people with the power to incinerate you where you stand!"
"But my lord," the soldier said, trying unsuccessfully to keep his voice from breaking, letting his head sink down until he was speaking into the carpet. "The commander has identified the Avatar."
"I don't care which of the Water brats that my son managed to pick up is the Avatar!" The Firelord's bathing robe slid down off one shoulder, and he yanked his hand away from the man polishing his nails to shove it back into place. "If you think that's important enough to interrupt, instead of leaving the dispatch with my secretary..." He trailed off menacingly.
The soldier swallowed. "But my lord, it's your son."
"What about him?" Ozai hissed. There was no reason for his traitorous little spawn to not be sailing home as fast as his obsolete wreck of a warship would take him unless Iroh had managed to get his hooks in, filling his head with treason for two and a half years. He never should have let his brother go with him.
The soldier lifted his head slightly, so the words would come out clearly. "The Avatar is Prince Zuko."
Ozai's face froze as his mind whirred. "Is he sure?"
"The admiral himself saw the prince airbending, my lord, there is no doubt."
Ozai tried to picture his weak, talentless son as the great spirit of the world. Suddenly the reason his son hadn't returned home with his prize was obvious. He could see it, the boy terrified that the imprisonment they had planned for the Avatar before would fall on his head, afraid that his countrymen would lock him away to safeguard the conquest.
Ozai didn't know why the boy should be afraid when he had to know how useful he would be, but then Zuko had never had vision.
His lips curled up as he shooed the soldier away. he had a letter to write, and a weakling son to reassure. Zuko was coming home.
The Avatar was his own loyal son. If that wasn't the universe smiling down on the Fire Nation's conquest, then nothing was.

Date: 2012-04-22 11:21 pm (UTC)~*~
"Stop struggling." Ty Lee unbuttoned the clasp on Kori's shirt collar and pulled it open. "I have to search you."
"No matter how you torture me, I will not break," Kori informed her, jerking against the belt pinning her wrists to the latticework above her head. "Even if you kill me, our cause will go on!"
"Where are the rest of you hiding?" Shoving the shirt up over Kori's head where it caught, snagged around the belt binding her wrists, Ty Lee licked a line up Kori's neck. "You will tell me, or I will be forced to-" She kissed her way down Kori's shoulders. "Have my-" Her mouth found the gentle slope where the top of Kori's breasts met her chest, and her hands pushed at the waistband of Kori's pants. "Wicked way with you."
"Oh no." Kori squirmed. The red paint had come off Ty Lee's lips, staining the other girl's skin, joining white streaks that had rubbed off Ty Lee's nose and cheeks. "Anything but that."
Ty Lee ground down against her lover's trapped thighs. "You can't possibly have believed you would succeed."
The heavy boots clunked on the polished floor, but Kori's mind couldn't quite focus on them until she heard a strangled gasp. "Uh, Ty Lee..."
"Zuko!" Ty Lee yelped, yanking Kori's shirt down over her new lover's shoulders and clutching her own uniform up around her shoulders. "I thought you weren't going to be back from Ba Sing Se until tomorrow!"
"Aang gave me a ride back early, I, uhhh," Zuko stuttered, averting his eyes, and trying to cross the hallway without looking at them. "I'll, uh, just... go to my room now."
"Huh," Kori remarked, somehow surprised. "His nose..." She rubbed the bridge of her own nose. "Turns red."
Ty Lee huffed delicately. "When he's embarrassed, yes I know. I grew up with him."
If Kori's arms had been free, she would have pulled them in around herself. It was a surreal thought, this green-clad woman, had left her people for another. She had grown up with the Firelord, and served a tiny Earth Kingdom island. Her trapped fingers spread wide, anxious to touch her lover's face, just to reassure herself that the paint came off and there was a Fire Nation girl underneath. "How do you do it?"
Ty Lee pulled back, puzzled. "Do what?"
Kori shrugged, the movement awkward in her bindings. "Live on Kyoshi Island, give up everything you are. I don't know, just all of it."
Sighing, she scooted across the floor until she was sitting next to Kori. "You're Fire Nation, right?"
Kori hesitated. "Yeah?"
"And an earthbender."
"Yeah, and that's hard enough, having everybody see me earthbend, and think they know what I am." She let her head sink onto Ty Lee's shoulder. "I couldn't choose it."
"You think you didn't choose it, a little?" Ty Lee said with a gentle smile. "People are going to see what they're going to see, and wherever you go, they're going to see something different."
"I just want them to see me." If it wasn't for the way people acted like she had lied to them when she proved them wrong...
Ty Lee shook her head. "I used to think I could make everybody see me, but only the people you love ever look that closely. But it doesn't matter. No matter how they see you, or where you go, you still have yourself. What they see doesn't change it." For a split second, a wry, introspective smile graced her face before she turned it into a full on, sweet grin. "Of course, sometimes that's the one thing about traveling that I don't like..."
"That's nice to know." Kori whispered.
"Hey, cheer up." Ty Lee kissed her cheek. "It's okay."
"Yeah sure," Kori shot back, rolling her eyes.
"Now, where were we?" As she spoke, Ty Lee swung her leg back over Kori's thighs.
Kori raised a feeble laugh. "I'll never give you anything, foul collaborator!"
"Don't worry," Ty Lee murmured, her lips diving down to Kori's collarbone. "We have ways of making you talk."

Somehow, I don't think this is the first time someone has walked in on Ty Lee.
