attackfishI woke up on Monday to moths. They trickle in every year, in twos and threes, until there’s a swarm several thousand strong around every light fixture and window all over he state, and the first moths always bring a groan, and the sinking feeling that they’re going to be there for months.
Of course, they usually show up in June, so this year, the dread is a little worse. June is when the bats wake up to eat the fluttery, fuzzy, home invading monstrosities which means the moths didn’t trickle in this time. They’re swarming, and dropping dead all over our house. I think my grandmother’s going to have another stroke. Yesterday, she walked outside to find hundreds of them hanging upside down underneath her bench, and screamed the rest of us awake.
Yo Yo’s happy. He’s been catching them out of the air and eating them.
It’s not like they’re a big deal, but they’re a little frazzling, and my grandmother is frazzling the rest of me. Stupid little things, my friends, stupid little things.
And to cap it all off, I have this absurdly strong urge to just sit down and write. This is the kind of urge that has lead to me polishing off six thousand word fics in two days, and pounding out two to three thousand word chunks of fic in an afternoon. Great right? I’m inspired. It’s the opposite of writer’s block. Only none of the things I’m chomping at the bit to write are the thirty thousand word White Collar slavefic I’m two thirds into. Gah! It’s not just that I’ve lost enthusiasm for this particular fic, but I sort of ran out of steam on the whole fandom, which I knew was coming, given that I was there for the people, not the canon, but oh well. Must finish fic. It doesn’t help that Legend of Korra came back and sucked me right back into Avatar. I mean, not that I ever left Avatar, but it’s like the first bloom of infatuation all over again. Damn it.

Date: 2012-04-26 02:45 pm (UTC)It's becoming a bit of a recuring joke that the verse has no plot, but I do know some things. Zuko airbends accedentally all the time, but can't do it on purpose reliably until he gets training, water and earth came easily to him, which because he's Zuko worried and angered him. As for general themes, Zuko has a character arc similar to canon, which means yes, Ozai gets his hooks back into Zuko. Zuko also has to learn how to be a citizan of the world, and.... now I'm just rambling.

Date: 2012-04-27 12:08 am (UTC)Did Zuko run away or something when he realized he was the Avatar? Or did Ozai banish him before becoming aware of the Avatar business? If he realized he had the Avatar right in the next room, I imagine Ozai wouldn't let him out of his sight for any reason. But no idea if he'd take advantage of Zuko's love for him to craft a powerful ally for the Fire Nation, or if he'd lock Zuko up and throw away the key.
And where would Iroh be in all of this? Teaching Zuko how to be a citizen of the world? Ow.
Poor world, though. I can just imagine the looks on people's faces when they realize the Avatar they were hoping was going to fight the Fire Lord is (mentally) in the Fire Lord's pocket.
Sorry, I also like Avatar!Zuko AUs ;)

Date: 2012-04-27 07:00 pm (UTC)A lot of those questions have been answered in the three drabbles I've already written in this verse: Banner (http://attackfish.dreamwidth.org/46122.html), The Spinning Gates (http://attackfish.dreamwidth.org/95749.html), and Act of Providence (http://attackfish.livejournal.com/98389.html?thread=1099605#t1099605) but to recap (and adding some new information), Zuko was exiled for speaking out in the war meeting as per canon, and on the day that Aang woke up in canon, Zuko trained with his uncle in the morning, went back to his cabin to rest, and accidentally airbended himself onto his futon. Panicked and miserable, Zuko decides to keep this secret from everyone. But his airbending isn't under control at all, and he keeps doing it by accident, and well... Ozai finds out, and thinks it's Christmas morning.
There's a theme throughout all of secrets, lies, and deception, both noble and... less than.
