Birthday AU Commentfic Meme!

It’s my birth month, and to celebrate, I’m hosting a commentfic meme!  I’m in the mood to write some AU fics, so that’s the theme of the meme.  I’m open to both Avatar: the Last Airbender and Harry Potter requests, and I’m also taking requests in any of my existing AUs (Except Children of Mars), including the ones I established im my last commentfic meme, as well as new ones.  Comment with up to five requests, and I’ll guarantee you at least one commentfic.  I’ll probably answer with more, knowing me.  weirdlet , beboots , and floranna  get seven requests and a guarantee of two fics, because beboots  and floranna  are the best betas ever, and weirdlet  has a truly bizarre AU I inflicted on her rattling around in her head.  Also, anyone who wants me to write anything from my AU of Sun Child needs to ask weirdlet  and floranna , because it’s theirs.

If you would go anachronistic I think that the rome would be better Air nomads than the jews because of the whole traveling thing (and yes I know that the jews also traveled a lot but it is not a part of the jewish image).

There was a dull impact in the center of his back. Zuko looked down to see the tip of an arrow protruding from his chest. He spun -- his claw fingers at the ready -- to see figures emerging from the snow, charging toward him. One of them was notching another arrow in his compound bow. They’d buried themselves and waited for him.
There were five of them in total, one had the bow and arrow, the others all had swords. Fire and explosions had failed Ozai, it looked as though he was now going to try dismemberment.
Another arrow caught him in the throat, lodging itself halfway in his neck.
It was a good day to be undead.

Zuko in this verse is a cunning liar. Not.

There's a huge part of me that can't handle the thought of Zuko going evil, but given the fact that in this verse, Aang can affect people he's around long enough I can see him falling under that hypnotic spell for long enough to teach him firebending.

Do you mean the Roma? Or the Romani more generally? Mostly, I was thinking of 1930s/40s because of the red Fire Nation flags with the spiky black thing in the middle, not that the Romani wouldn't fit that analogy too, but I think Jewish Air Nomads in exile in Fire Nation Babylon? AWESOME BEYOND REASON.

something that would be funnier would probably be if an Avatar/D&D fusion had the characters/nations as wrong races - Fire nation as halflings, Air nomads as orcs, Earth kingdom as elves (Toph as an high elf) and Water tribe as dwarfs.

I re-read it and very cool psychology aspect of things. Also how does it attach, what if it comes off in the Agni Kai. If I were Azula I would do everything I could to burn it or remove it somehow. How will he guard against that. Maybe he will invent some bending moves (AKA Iroh) that can be equally or more devastating when kneeling/seated or expand on his "breakdancing" moves. I have a friend who shoots archery and fences from a wheelchair - he is absolutely devastating. I love to see him kick somebody's ass who made the mistake of misjudging him - makes my day every time. Ive learned most from him as an archer , he is left handed and can show me things as I am left handed too. H

There's a big part of me that wants someone to set it on fire and then for Zuko to throw it at them. Which would be difficult, because it attaches with a leather cup and a system of laces that keep it from coming off quickly.

Does this friend of yours have any videos online? I'd love to see that.

Quiet Shadowed Places: Fire Bending Masters

To Zuko, firebending had always been a tool, a dangerous, unreliable tool. A tool that was never the right tool for the job, but always had to be good enough. Fire was pain, and blindness, and a time when he had once been able to see. Fire was something he could never turn his back on.

“It’s like a little heartbeat,” Aang whispered. It sounded as if he were smiling, just a little bit. Zuko’s heart sank.

He tried to give that knowledge to the Avatar, but the Avatar was Aang, and there was nowhere for wariness to take root in Aang, only fear or easy acceptance.

Zuko felt the fire in his hand. It was nothing like a heartbeat. He could feel the fire in Aang’s hands like a spot of color in the shadows. All around him, there were little spots of color, and behind him, in the first flame, the color pooled and shimmered.

He closed his useless glass eyes. Fire pulsed and wove through the air around him, but Zuko held tight to the fire in Aang’s hands and followed it up the temple steps. And when it went out, he climbed a step that wasn’t there and stumbled. As he fell heavily to his knees on the stone bridge, his hand itched for his cane, in the hands of the Sun Warriors at the bottom of the stairs.

The bridge under their feet rumbled under them both, and Aang froze and Zuko ran into him. “Uh oh,” Aang said softly, standing rigidly, back to Zuko.

Then the rumbling stopped. A roar cut through the air and Zuko turned his head to the sound, hands coming up to shield his face.

“You still think we can take them?” Aang whispered. Zuko could hear the smirk in his annoying little voice.

“Shh.” Zuko hissed. “I never said that.” Then what else Aang had said connected inside his brain. “Wait, there’s more than one?”

Aang nodded. Zuko could feel the flex in his shoulders until he moved back. “Two.”

Two dragons. They had to be dragons.

“Zuko,” Aang muttered, poking him in the back with his elbow. “I think we’re supposed to do The Dragon Dance with them.”

“What?” Zuko demanded. “What about this situation that you think they want us to dance?” Of course this was how it was going to end. He was going to be eaten by dragons.

“Well, I think they want us to do something,” the Avatar hissed anxiously. “Let’s just try it.”

Zuko hadn’t seen the statues. His body scrambled to remember the sequence of moves. Every time he put his feet down, he breathed out, afraid the ground wouldn’t be there. The bridge’s edge had to be somewhere. He heard the sounds of the dragons, flying just beyond.

His fists hit Aang’s, and the two stilled. A snarl sent hot air into Zuko’s face. Aang shook, and Zuko froze.

The fire came for them both. The screams burst out of their throats together. They couldn’t stop them.

The fire rolled through the air past them and around them. Zuko felt the fire, and the warmth as it wrapped around them. It lived. It moved around them. Sunlight. It felt like sunlight, if sunlight breathed.

“I understand,” he breathed, but he wasn’t sure he did anymore.

not that I know of. I shot archery with him this weekend. He is always one of the ones who wins. Ive also shot archery with someone who was born with one arm. (I'm a terrible shot partially because of perceptual problems but I love it because of the action of loading and pulling my bow is calming to me. I can enjoy it without hitting a darn thing. but I am getting better. I actually hit a couple things this time.) He had an adapted leather cuff to hold the bow thgat he had to be laced into. He pulled the bowstring with his hand and is an amazing shot, much, much better than me- (his perceptions are obviously intact). There is another guy that gets in armor and kicks butt (literally) with a crutch (missing a leg) and is very successful at winning most of his bouts. So I will look up some of the links I know and let you know if I find anything you would like to see. SCA (who I reinact with) has pretty extensive services for those with a disability at most of our functions. They also have interpreters for people who are deaf. (I am trying to learn more sign language too - for my patients). Great bunch of people to hang out with. Talk to you later. H

Oh look, you made me re-watch the finale. How tragic.






“I’m sorry it has to end this way, brother,” Azula spat, fire already springing from her hands in anticipation.

“No,” Zuko said, too softly for her to hear. “You’re not.”

Sometimes, when he had been trapped on his ship with his uncle and crew, he had wondered if it was a sick joke of destiny that the only people we could really fight were firebenders. Sometimes he had to keep himself from wondering if that’s what his father meant.

Azula rode the waves of her fire. The whisps of feeling at the edges of his vision that he had struggled, and fought, and tormented himself for years learning to read, and to block were gone.

His father hadn’t meant him to fight at all. His father had meant him to give up.

Zuko couldn’t see Azula. He couldn’t see Katara, or the columns around them, or the arena floor beneath him, or the sky above. But he could feel the fire. It stood out against the cold, dark world. Under the comet, Azula’s fire wasn’t a faint trace he had to grab onto. It was a roar, a bright, breathtaking beacon that guided him back to her.

I'd love to see that, and I never knew that about the SCA. SCA and I (or any reenactment groups, really) have never gotten along because I'm violently allergic to smoke and it triggers massive seizures in minute quantities. But I make jewelry for reenactments, and my brother used to be in it.
