It’s my birth month, and to celebrate, I’m hosting a commentfic meme! I’m in the mood to write some AU fics, so that’s the theme of the meme. I’m open to both Avatar: the Last Airbender and Harry Potter requests, and I’m also taking requests in any of my existing AUs (Except Children of Mars), including the ones I established im my last commentfic meme, as well as new ones. I love this Teo is so cool & Zuko I can see that he thinks he doesnt want to bond but he is not going to be able to resist-he is just too curious. Teo is great at putting people at ease, and waiting until they cant resist being friendly-also he has been there before-except he probally doesent remember too much prior to his accident as he was so young - or does he hmmm. So how will he find his way thru the ice and snow into the spring during northern air temple, liking how well he can fight using his other sences. I wonder can he sence the body woarmth of people. Many reptiles have heat sencing pits on the side of their faces and can actually see the body warmth of their prey against the cooler ambient surroundings. Interesting thought - so can he fight back even against non fire benders consistnatly or does he really need his cane to do so. or can he throw out wave of heat like sound from a bat? thought provoking!! Zuko can't sense heat, only fire, which means he's much more limited in his perceptions than Toph. He's only really able to fight firebenders, which is something he regards as a sick joke. However, he has learned to use his firebending to channel straight up heat into other people if he can touch them or something conductive touching them, like he did with Jet and Jet's swords. Since he let his crew do most of the fighting against the Gaang in this version of season one, they're very surprised when they see him fight his sister in "The Chase".

I love how he tries so hard to be a strong silent type, he doesnt realize how many different types of strength there are, but he is so impulsive and curious that he just cant be cool- cant. resist. Teo. He cant help but respond to Teo. Sulking takes so much more energy to maintain.
Teo can outlast the sulkfest anytime.

He will just sit there and smile waiting until you are ready- and maybe go for a glider run and make you watch him having fun.

OH by the way forgot to ask. BTW Which leg is it because if it is his dominant side that will mess things up much more rather than the one you offload onto and use as a stabilizing point. I have to be able to visualize when I think of scenarios and how they MAY play out. So I can ask well thought questions.

Hah, Zuko's default state is sulk. It takes him no energy.

It's his right leg, but a lot of people (like me) don't have dominant legs, or have dominant legs that are the opposite of their dominant hands. Not having a dominant leg actually becomes more common the younger someone begins to train, so Zuko's unlikely to have a defined dominant leg.

I find that if youre strongly dominant eyed that you balance better if that leg is forward, such as fencing. IM very strongly L eye dominant but have to write R handed. makes me feel inside out. So I usually during sports have my L leg forward and pivot on my right. but with fencing you can take a "refuse" stance with your dominant side leg back that will give your lunge much more distance & power. Was a wonderful ploy when I used 2 weapons at once because my opponent would never notice that I was L handed until he was on his butt. But Zuko is definately not a lefty (he is just not that cool).

Yes you are absolutely right Zukos defult emotion is sulk-but he is ticklish (muahaha). He just hasnt been in the situation that he let that little turtleduck out of the bag-I can see him getting really frustrated and using his core strength to tickle someone into submission (from laughing too hard to breathe) - he might even let his control slip and crack a smile after turning bright red from effort of not seeming like he enjoys tickle fights. H

Also, if he wasn't right eye dominant before, he was after his father burned and half blinded his left eye. I'm ambidextrous, and have no discernible dominance with either eye, which I used to good effect fighting. People would think I had one dominant hand, until all of a sudden I switched it around on them. Also nice when learning Semitic languages. They're so much easier to write left handed.

It was always summer in the Fire Nation. The tropical heat dripped through the open windows. Sweat soaked into Zura’s shift and mingled with the liquid running down her legs and onto the bed beneath her.

She yelled as the baby’s head slipped free of her body, and he breathed, half shout of pain, half victory cry. The baby started to cry too, loud, healthy screams. Her courtiers all around breathed sighs of relief. Zura breathed deep. The world widened to include them too, and a knot of embarrassment pressed against her lungs. They had come to see their Firelord bring a new heir into the world. Her mother had done this.

Her mother had brought her into the world this way, surrounded by all these people, there to see something more than a child being born, to see a princess being born.

Her son was being born to a dead father. Lucky son.

Zura tried to smile, but she was just too tired, so she just lay there and panted as the doctors cut the umbilical cord and handed her son to her.

No one was ever going to try to deny her children their titles ever again.

It was easier this time, even with all the people; she wasn’t stuck in the middle of some swamp, she was home, she was...

Home was the part that mattered.

It was how Lan Min should have been born, but that didn’t matter anymore.

By the way, as to my Harry Potter Fusion, I wrote it with the idea in mind that Voldemort was Zuko’s dad (The kid can’t catch a paternal break, and who else would be Bellatrix’s baby daddy?) but I just can’t make the timeline work with Bella having Zuko in prison and Zuko starting school after the war. Did disembodied spirit!Voldy impregnate Bella? Kinky!

Zuko saw things. They drifted past him through the pain before he could grab onto them. Time passed like melted stone. Time didn’t exist, not for him.

(Ozai turned his back and walked away from the arena, and it took hours for anyone to summon the courage to lift his son, to hurt even to scream, up from the floor and carry him back into the palace.)

Sometimes, Zuko thought his mother was there, but then other times, he thought his mother was there instead. He heard his father’s voice, cold and dismissive, and he heard Uncle’s voice, angry and loud, but that couldn’t be right. Uncle was never angry anymore.

(Iroh closed the door to his chambers and watched the somber little procession winding its way down the hall. “What is going on?” He grabbed his nephew’s hand. “He’s not...” He felt the pulse and closed his eyes, the sick wave of terror spilling away for just a moment. There were so many things to still be terrified of for Zuko’s sake.

“Firelord’s orders,” one of the doctors mumbled. “He’s not allowed to stay in the palace.”

Iroh’s eyes widened, and then narrowed into slits. He opened the door behind him. “Take him into my room. I’ll talk to Ozai.”

He snuck his nephew into the war meeting. He could sneak him into the palace.)

But he saw things. He knew he did. Even when his eyes were closed.

(The Firelord’s guards smashed the doors open so hard they slammed against the walls. Ozai pinched his lips together hard enough to force away all of the blood. “You have no right, Iroh-”

Iroh leapt to his feet. “I have no right?” he snapped, and grabbed his brother’s arm. The guards moved to stop them, but Iroh just looked at them and they backed away.

“You aren’t the first in line for the throne anymore, Iroh,” Ozai snarled, trying to jerk his arm away, but Iroh’s hands just gripped tighter.

“This is your son,” Iroh whispered.)

He kept his eyes closed as much as he could, because every time they opened, he saw the creatures that had poked and cut at them, and tried to take them away from him. He could hear them in his dreams, and his eyes hurt, even through the strange haze over his body. Whenever he tried to reach them, to cover them, someone pushed his hands away. Uncle’s voice accompanied the hands that pulled his ams down and tucked them back under the stifling blankets. But it should’t be Uncle. Why would it be Uncle? Uncle was a ghost. Since he had come home from Ba Sing Se. He kept to himself and almost never spoke, and Zuko didn’t...

His eyes hurt so much.

Uncle never wanted anything to do with Zuko’s father. He shouldn’t be there.

(The doctors held held Zuko down. The smell rising from the wound filled the room. They held his eyelids open. His eyes weren’t eyes anymore. The heat had boiled and burst them. Pus oozed out. The knife slipped into their socket and cut them away. The doctor’s fingers swept them out.

The glass eyes rolled around on the table and watched until the doctor with the knife put them inside the sockets.)

The floor moved under Zuko’s body, tilting from side to side, rocking him back to sleep each time he floated up above the sticky, numbing fog. Sometimes, he heard whimpers, and screams, but he couldn’t tell whose they were, and it didn’t really seem important.

(They carried him up the gangway and into the belly of the tiny ship and laid him on the futon before he even woke up. Iroh followed. As soon as they left, he ran his fingers through what was left of his nephew’s hair.)

Zuko saw things. He knew he did.

Zuko sat up on the futon and pushed away the cup his uncle offered.

“It’s just tea.” Uncle told him, and curled his nephew’s fingers around it.

Zuko touched his closed eyelids with his other hand. “I don’t want it.”

Iroh picked up the new, thin reed cane from off the floor and curled his nephew’s hands around that too.

Daaamn... ;_; I love protective!Iroh and this Zuko being all confused about his uncle's presence... I honestly do think that Ozai lost ALL respect in Iroh's eyes when he hurt his son, in canon and in this fic.

I had forgotten about the semitic languages-wow been so long I-grew up in a predominantly Jewish community in Ohio and I always felt left out as a child that I diddnt have to go to Hebrew school-until I watched my friends writing hebrew-I have enough difficulty printing and cursive (took me 6 months to relearn writing my name when I got married)!!. There are also several things that I cannot do right handed because I'm so strongly left eye dominent. but in both fencing and soccer I always had the advantage of the unexpected. Archery I cant even begin to do right handed because it is so visual and I cant sight right eyed and coordinate my hands. funny though I cant write left handed for anything-I sure wish I could though. laterality is very interesting to me!! also our hemisphere dominance is subtly different in everyone. Very obvious in those who have strokes because different attribuets are affected in different ways. Oh boy I could go forever on this topic!! H

I missed out on Hebrew school as a kid, which left me in the odd, awkward position of being an Ashkenazi Jew who speaks better Arabic than Hebrew (I speak enough Hebrew to get by, and I can understand it now) which meant I was a very odd duck among the very small number of Jews in my home town. I have anecdotal noticed a higher number of left handed Jews and Arabs than other populations, and I've always wondered if that might have inclined us to create a right-to-left language.

Wow!! very interesting. I think also basques are noted for a high concentration of lefties, also the rh- factor are notable in some populations like basques. I think I heard something about Ashkenazi Jews having an abundance of RH- blood type (yes it does run in my family)- Ive wondered if that is a gender linked trait (my mother had it, I have it, so does my daughter. My son does not.) My mother could not have any children after me (go figure-they broke the mold- hee hee).

I can only say some very naughty things in Hebrew-courtesy of my friends of course. I can speak more sign language than Hebrew or Polish (my husband's family are polish and german). I wish I were fluent-but languages are very hard for me to learn. I can get by with sign language and speak very broken French. C'est la vie!!

My Arabic professor refuses to teach us any dirty words, but I know a lot of dirty Russian ones. My Russian teacher used to bribe us to learn our vocabulary by teaching us a new cuss word each time.

Me too- I felt like crying. Just think Zuko cant cry now- no relief. Im so heartbroken for him. He had this kind demeanor and was just completely betrayed by one who was supposed to if not protect him- at least to educate him. and He just is thrown away and left in a heap like garbage. No one says to themselves-this is Ursa's beloved boy-how can I help. Thats how I see people "this is somebody's sister, or mother or daughter or son. Somebody loves this person most in the world. Once upon a time this old cranky man was sombody's beloved baby and he was cherished- how can I do less" that is what i say to myself at work-when I get irritated with my patients. It works really well and keeps the human element fresh. H.

Nice. I have an exclusively filthy mouth in hebrew,& polish, in sign language and french I can say other things too. Bad grammer and spelling in all. So how many languages do you speak? seems as high as you verbal skills are, I bet languages come naturally to you. I dont learn well with rote learning, I do best with mimicing and visual learning, I also am a natural mechanic- I love to figure out how things work in different combinations. I love to fix stuff!! I have no interest in remembering facts via rote learning. (arrgh the reversals are driving me nuts tonight - I consistantly reverse letters-some nights are better than others though.) H
